OKA Tatami
Furniture
Kyoto 2018 - 2024
OKA is a line of furniture designed for relaxation developed in Japan with Mitsuru Yokoyama, Master Tatami Craftsman.
Furniture for relaxation
Our project is inspired by Japanese landscapes and valleys and explores the relationship between interior and exterior spaces in traditional housing.
By respecting the formal continuity, craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics of the tatami mats, we sought to challenge the volume of the interior spaces and bring the landscape into the house.
OKA Tatami introduces a new dimension to the world of tatami: the curve.
Rice straw is a basic and noble natural material, its humidity regulating power offers added value beyond the primary function of the object, it helps to purify the indoor air of spaces.
OKA Tatami is a collaboration between Loma Studio and Yokoyama Tatami, supported by the French Institute.
